35 Bible Verses to Live By

biblewebThe Bible is full of helpful things to remember…some things are comforting and beautiful promises to God’s children, some are warnings, and some are instructions for living. Psalm 119:11 reminds us to hide God’s words in our hearts so we won’t sin against Him (if we know scripture we can heed its warnings). Here are some more of my favorites (in no particular order):

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Isaiah 41:10  fear not, for I am with you;  be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you,  I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

I Am

Had an interesting week learning with God. It started with a great sermon by Kelly McClendon entitled “I Am the Resurrection and the Life.” In the sermon he spoke of the “I Am” statements of Jesus, this week focusing on John 11:1-44, with the story of Lazarus. Please read the entire Biblical text here. The sermon is based on the book “The God We Can Know” by Rob Fuquay. I will paraphrase Kelly’s sermon below.

The story goes: word had reached Jesus that his good friend Lazarus was dying. Jesus was 20 miles away (a two-days journey) preaching. We assume that Mary and Martha, Lazarus’ sisters, would expect Jesus to come swiftly.  But Jesus waited 2 more days before heading their way. Most people are surprised that Jesus didn’t leave right away or intervene to heal Lazarus from afar, but Jesus knew God had something better in mind. Read more

Thanks to Kelly McClendon for the written sermon notes from which I look much of this post.

Editing Faded Photos

Here are a couple of examples of editing I’ve done with Photoshop Elements 12. Tutorials may follow–if I can ever figure out a way to teach this in a cohesive way to someone else!   Sincerely, Malinda

Get to Know Me

headshot
This is the first post of what I hope to be many on this site (actually I posted some entries from my old blog previous to this post). I am learning to write (in a bloggy environment).

Let me tell you a bit about myself (no particular order):

15) I am curious about many things (what is the saying about that killing the cat?)

14) have lived an interesting life (at least some people tell me I have)

13) feel like I have stuff to contribute to the world (maybe I’m deluded!)

Also, I ~~

12) am a Christian

11) am a news junkie

10) have a funny, lovely, annoying family

9) fall on my face sometimes

8) have a close family member with a debilitating disease

7) love animals

6) take tons of photos and hope to one day go beyond amateur

5) struggle with insecurities

4) hate my weight issues

3) sometimes feel like I’m getting old

2) suffer with regular migraines

1) spent 25 years as a military wife–recently I became a “retired military” wife

That’s a little about me. I’m sure if you follow me, you’re bound to find out more things! I plan to talk about what’s on my mind, what I know, what I want to know, funny things my family does, and share my photos. Please tell me about YOU!

Sincerely,

Malinda

Clone Wars Valentines For BOYS To Give

Filed under: Uncategorized — mscornforth @ 8:03 pm

It was so difficult to find valentines cards that my 11 year old son felt like giving to classmates. He was insistent that there could be no hearts or mushy sayings!! So we made some ourselves–below are the examples (I have posted them for you to use as well! Click HERE for link). They are created with bracelet glow sticks for the light sabres (no candy!). Once you place the downloaded .png or .pub files into a Word or Publisher file or similar, print out the valentines on cardstock (we did 4 per sheet). Before adding the glow sticks, have your child address the back side of the card. On a protected surface–cardboard works well–carefully (parents only) make a small slit with an exacto knife at the location where the light saber handle starts on the photo–insert glow stick and tape on back side so it is lined up with the light saber in the photo.  Voila!  Valentines that any boy would be proud to give (even to girls!).

Fly

Fly

It has been a very long time since I wrote a post on here…many things have happened during the last 6 months.  But I feel compelled today to write in response to the death of my dear friend, Jim Morio.

We’ve all known people that we look up to.  Teachers, mentors, etc.  As I am reeling from the shock of Jim’s sudden, unexpected death, I am forced to reflect on what he has meant to me in the short time I knew him (3 yrs).  It is difficult to exactly place a finger on it because he was so many things to so many people, but the foremost thing in my mind today is what a true man of God he was.  I pray that when my days on earth are over, people will remember that of me!!

Of one thing I am CERTAIN: Jim is rejoicing  and worshipping God right now.  I always look to songs to describe what I’m feeling–and this time is no exception…I keep thinking of the song “I Can Only Imagine“–I am imagining what Jim is doing right now in the presence of Jesus, but he doesn’t have to imagine anymore!  How wonderful is that???     Read more
